CMV - Cruise and Maritime Voyages - Purefleet, United Kingdom
This marine cruise operator is based in Purefleet, Essex, and is considered to be the largest cruise operator in the UK. Although it does not own its ships, but charters them on the market through a subsidiary of the same name, based in Dartford.
Historically, the birth of Cruise & Maritime Voyages in 2010 was initiated by the British company Cruise & Maritime Services following the bankruptcy of its main customer, German tour operator Transcean Tours, born in 1957. First active in the river cruise, Transcean Tours enters the deep-sea cruise only from 1972 and differs from its competitors by chartering cruise ships from a Soviet operator. Transocean Tours ships will keep their Soviet union colored funnel even when sailing exclusively for Transocean Tours' account.
Following its restructuring in 2014, German Transcean Tours was acquired by London-based South Quay Travel & Leisure Ltd, which historically specializes in group travel (companies, associations, etc.). And incidentally the parent company of Cruise & Maritime Voyages. Transcean Tours still exists today but has become a German subsidiary of Cruise & Maritime Voyages.
Cruise & Maritime Voyages operates chartered vessels that are relatively old compared to the floating and recent palaces of its competitors, playing on historical fiber and a guaranteed change of scenery when boarding one of their ships : a journey through time and not on board a floating mall !
As CMV's ships are modest in size compared to the Italian and French productions of the 2000s and following of its competitors, this allows CMV to be able to stop its ships in Le Havre, but especially in Honfleur and Rouen, ports inaccessible to recent cruise ships. What is valid in Normandy is also valid elsewhere, CMV stopover where the "big" can not go.
